Cinderella Carpet One in Salinas is proud to be a part of a partnership with the Building for America’s Bravest program. Building for America’s Bravest is a program of The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, in proud partnership with the Gary Sinise Foundation, which was developed to build smart homes for catastrophically injured service members.

As the program’s official flooring provider, Carpet One Floor & Home will be supplying flooring and installation for the construction of these smart home. There are currently 55 service members on the list to receive smart homes – 6 smart homes have already been built; there are 49 homes scheduled to be built over the next 3 years.

Below is an overview of one of the new homes that was recently completed.

On January 16, 2012, Retired GySgt Tom McRae, at the age of 29, had served three tours of duty in Iraq, and was on his second tour of duty in Afghanistan, when he was catastrophically injured by an improvised explosive device that was detonated underneath him. This explosion resulted in the amputation of both of his legs and his left arm, injuries to his brain, and the loss of sight in his right eye.

On April 7th, 2016, after four years of recovery, GySgt Tom McRae finally has somewhere to call home with his daughter Aidan in Maple Hill, NC. This was made possible by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation’s Building for America’s Bravest program, and many generous donors including Carpet One who donated all of the flooring installation in the home. Below are some pictures of the smart home that is custom built with high tech features that will allow GySgt McRae the ability to care for his daughter and to make many happy new memories together.
